Neville est 1878

 

A comfortable 3.5 hour drive from Sydney takes you to the picturesque country village of Neville within the Blayney Shire. Just 30 minutes from Bathurst and 40 minutes from Orange.

With a population of just over 220 people, generations of locals continue to call Neville ‘home’.
Many visitors and locals are attracted to the area for tranquil rural life with popular recreational activities and all the amenities in nearby Blayney.

The village of Neville boasts many historical buildings with The Hotel (1929), the historical
school building (1858) currently still operational with over 18 students and a number of historic
churches. The Neville Memorial park with its playground, BBQ and amenities is the perfect
place for a family picnic.

History

The area was first discovered by explorer, George Evans in 1815. The earliest mention of the name was in the gazette of Australian Colonies in 1848. The public school was established in 1858, however, it was not until 1888 that Neville was named, prior to this, Neville was known as Mount Macquarie.

In 1866, the Presbyterian Church was built, with the Methodist (now the Uniting Church) and Anglican churches following in 1878. In 1870 a post office was built and later transformed into the Village Store.

By 1897, The School of Arts, Catholic Church and a telephone exchange was built.

Neville Siding

The unique accommodation and function centre available at Neville Siding is a highlight for the village in the centre of the village where visitors can stay in renovated train carriages from yesteryear.

The Goods Shed is the showpiece which can accommodate up to 25 people. It’s popular with railway enthusiasts and ideal for families, large groups and those simply seeking time out.

Annual Events

ANZAC commemoration is on the Sunday before
ANZAC Day every April.

Neville Show is a small country show with a big heart, held annually on 2nd Saturday in November.

Showcasing the district’s livestock and produce, including market stalls and many competitions. An opportunity to see Australian Draft Horses at work along with 3 rings of equine events.

Carcoar Running Cup Half marathon starts in Neville and travels through the scenic countryside to the finish line in Carcoar.
